Dead Point Magazine: Issue 3

Check out the latest issue of DPM online for a couple shots I have featured in the Linville Gorge, NC article. You can also pick up a "free" hard copy at your local climbing gym.

If you sign up with the DPM community (kinda like a facebook., but for climbers), you can enter to win a home bouldering gym from DPM & Etch/Climbingholds.

The Shadow Sculpture

These are two sculptures I had created around 2004/05'.
I thought it would be a good learning experience for me to shoot them and hone in on my studio skills, because I mostly shoot in the field and not in a controlled environment.

Both of these pieces are my representation of Carl Jung's archetype of "The Shadow."

How I shot the pieces (picture below):

I found a nice piece of glass (cleaned it) and thought that would be perfect for a clean floor which also adds a nice reflection to the sculpture.
I had to rig up how I was going to suspend the glass and all I could find a the time were my stands. They did a good job and if I didn't show you the photo below. No one would have ever known the difference.
I used an on-camera flash with a softbox for fill and a remote flash to completely blowout the background to get that pro-white look. The remote flash also adds some highlights to the edges of the piece.

Dayton Pocket Session, TN

Just got back home from a week long trip down to the Chattanooga area. It was more of a actual bouldering trip for myself, but I did get out one day and shoot at Dayton Pocket with Ronnie Jenkins, Nicholas Oklobzija and James Litz.

James ended up sending the project that is to the left of "Riverdance."
James is calling the problem "Stankins."

Here are a couple out-take images from that day.

Ronnie speaks of his days as a janitor to the momentum crowd.

La Sportiva Commercial

Sportiva ended up using a small portion of "The Shield" video that I shot of Jason Kehl last January in their new commercial.
It's right after Beth Rodden's part in the climbing portion of the video.
